The Raid on Viking was one of the last engagements on the Company War.
History[]
The Company War approached its five decades long in 2533, and the Earth Company Mazianni fleet was on the losing side: Union was destroying or taking all independent stations which supported the Mazianni: Russell Station and Mariner Station were destroyed, and Viking Station, taken intact. That left a single independent station: Pell Station.
The Company Fleet had been reduced to barely ten Carriers, a fifth of the original force, and its leader, Conrad Mazian, ordered a gathering of all those remaining at Point Omicron, to plan an attack against the recently taken Viking station. Its plan was to briefly take the station, after destroying all Union forces, take the key personnel and strip the essential parts of it before leaving, before retreating. This way, they expected to force Union to expend a lot of resources repariring and keeping operating the station, and leave a great garrison, to delay their advance. However, the plan didn't worked as expected.
The Raid[]
The Mazianni found Union forces on system, and during the engagement, they losed a Carrier, the Libya and two of the India's riderships, and all other Carriers were damaged... but then Mazian's flagship, the Europe, received a transmission from Union ships: it was a message from one of Earth Company's ambassadors, saying they've signed an armistice with Union, and ordering Mazian to retreat. Knowing they've been betrayed by their masters, Mazian ordered a quick retreat.
Aftermath[]
The last nine Carriers retreated to Pell Station, which they forcibly take and used to repair and resupply their ships. Mazian's plans to retreat to Earth and continue the war from there were thwarted by their Carrier Norway's defection. The Battle of Pell signaled the end of the Company War.
